The Descent into Hell: Violence in Individuation
In Daughter of Fire by Irina Tweedie, she describes, in her intensely personal diary of her spiritual training, how certain aspects were given to her through 'violent reproof and even aggression.'

This talk looks at violence in the individuation process and its meaning. It considers the impulse which generates religious flagellation and sado-masochism in the life of the individual, as these manifest through dreams of dismemberment and violence - and reflect an urge towards transformation.
Mari-Louise von Franz said of Daughter of Fire, that Tweedie's experience was "a testimony to great courage and integrity." The confrontation with the shadow, which almost killed her, exemplifies the importance of this harrowing aspect of Jung's psychology as a preparation for reaching the light.
Venue: The Essex Church, 112 Palace Gardens Terrace, London W8 4RT
